Drift Film at New Belgium Brewery

A stunning visual journey, DRIFT combines the highest quality film production, world class flyfishing and an eclectic group of anglers to create the most definitive film about the sport to date.

Drift takes you on a cinematic adventure across the flats of Belize and the Bahamas, down the tailwaters of the Green, Frying Pan and the Big Horn, spey casting on the Deschutes, and exploring the exotic rivers of Kashmir, India.

On Tuesday evening, December 2nd, there will be a showing of Drift at the New Belgium Brewery. The doors will open at 6:30pm with the film starting around 7:00pm. The NB Brewery was kind enough to donate their theatre and a few kegs for the show. Admission is $15 with all proceeds going to the Save The Poudre Coalition. Tickets are available at St. Peter's Fly Shop or at the door. CASH Only Please. See you there.

Fly Fishing Legend Lost in Accident

I write with a heavy heart at the loss of a fly fishing legend Denny Breer, owner of Trout Creek Flies in Dutch John, Utah. Having just returned back from a trip to Belize, I was just informed today that the "Dean of the Green" died in a tragic accident on November 6th at his home. Years before I had the privilege of meeting Denny, my friends and I had thoroughly studied his book, Utah's Green River: A Fly Fisher's Guide to the Flaming Gorge Tailwater. Many of the techniques and lessons we learned from his book transferred to other tailwaters we would visit. He has been an unbelievable wealth of knowledge over the years.

A few years ago at the start of Fly Currents, Nick and myself were constantly on the road meeting with fly shop owners and guides. Being a new company with a new idea we got plenty of sceptical looks and suspicious reactions. Occasionally we would come across an owner that immediately understand what we were trying to do and get enthusiastic about helping us reach our objectives. On this rocky road we met with Denny and I will never forget how generous he was with his time and how he offered to help us without hesitation. It is no coincidence that many of the owners we met with afterwards were much more open to our ideas after knowing Denny was involved. We will always be grateful.

Whether you are just learning to fly fish or a seasoned angler there is a void in our sport that will be hard to fill. In an industry that, at times, can have strong opinions and egos, I have never heard anything but admiration and affection for Denny. He will be sorely missed.

Late Fall Fly Fishing On The Eagle River

Late Fall and early winter make for some incredible days on the river. Gear-up and you'll be happily surprised at the results. Low clear water, hungry trout, and less angling pressure are just a few of the reasons that make this time of year some of the best fishing to be had! I was lucky enough to meet up with a few pro's from Fly Fishing Outfitters in the Vail/Avon area. To say the least these fellows know how to fly fish the Eagle under any conditions! Whether your a seasoned angler, a local, or new to a specific location it is always a good idea to stop into the local fly shop(s) for the best information on where to go and current river techniques for that particular time of year. With Fly shops all along the I-70 corridor it's easy to hook-up with the guides and professionals who make there living on the water.

The Eagle is fishing great for this time of year as the pictures below will attest too. Trout are in the usual deep runs and pools. Nymphing with tiny midge patterns, emergers, soft hackles and attractors seemed to be the ticket today, but look out for the up incoming egg hatch as we move into the winter months. With the water low and clear 6x fluorocarbon leaders and tippet are a must to fool the bigger browns and rainbows.
