Project Healing Waters

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active duty military personnel and veterans through fly fishing and fly tying education and outings.

After a meet and greet at Santa Rita park next to the Animas River in Durango soldiers from Ft. Carson, Colorado and Ft. Huachuca, Arizona were prepared to venture out on what was for many of them their first ever fly fishing experience. The trip started off fishing to a recovery population of Colorado River Cutthroat on the East Fork of Hermosa Creek, then a ride on the Durango & Silverton train to cast to small trout on Cascade Creek a small high mountain tributary of the Animas river, and finally a day trip on the San Juan River in New Mexico. We meet up for killer dinners at J Bo’s pizzeria and Serious BBQ two local Durango restaurants which provided the perfect stage for the tails of the days events. It was my pleasure to work with Aaron and Jason who were ready to serve midge clusters all afternoon to the highly selective trout of the San Juan River. This trip would have never happened with out the work of PHWFF own Robin Marsett and Jim Williams. Great trip all! Till next time…
