Current News

As we move into May many of our favorite free-stone rivers are about to experience run-off conditions. Below are some brief reports on water conditions from around the Rockies.

Eagle River: Just starting to experience run-off conditions. CFS over 1000!
Gore Creek: Running at around 110! Still fishing good to very good. This is a good destination to hit before flows go up and the River gets cloudy.
Yampa through Steamboat: Forget about it! Flowing high and dirty. Wait until run-off is over.
Yampa below Stagecoach: Fishing good to very good. When water starts going over the dam clarity will become an issue, but currently it is still a good choice for anglers.
Williams Fork River: Running at around 100cfs. Ideal flows for this time of year. This is a good choice right now.
Blue River: Flowing at around 500cfs. Good flows to push the bigger trout out from the dam. Cloudy water might be an issue in the afternoons, but overall it's been fishing good from Silverthorne to Green Mountain Reservoir.
Frying Pan River: The Pan is fishing good to great with the current release from the dam. This is another good destination to target when other rivers are experiencing run-off conditions.
Big Thompson River: A good choice right now with great BWO hatches and ideal flows. Some muck in the water so check your patterns often when nymphing. Trout have been up in the water hitting mainly emergers.
Poudre River: Starting to get higher, but still very fishable. Only a couple more weeks before it too is blown.
Arkansas River: Still fishable, but conditions can change quickly! This river drainage is very close to Run-off so check the reports on a weekly/daily basis.
Conejos River: Great reports from the upper strain of the Conejos. The lower river is highs and experiencing run-off. Tip: Hit the Upper Meadows and tributaries for the best results.
Roaring Fork River: Currently experiencing Run-off conditions. The Aspen area can still be fished, but the lower sections are stained/cloudy and ROARING!!
Gunnison River: Currently Blown! Head to the Taylor or small tributaries in the area.
Taylor River: Like the Fryingpan this tailwater will be a good choice for anglers to target as other rivers begin to experience run-off conditions.
Green River: One of the best choices right now. Clear water and consistent flows! Hungry trout and great hatches make this worth the trip!

As a final note. The Fly Fishing Film Tour is Hitting Fort Collins Tonight at 7:00pm! There are still seats left, but not many. You can purchase tickets at the local fly shops, or at the door.

We are happy to announce that the AEG Fly Fishing Film Tour has added Fort Collins to the event schedule on the evening of May 7th. If you are not familiar with this event it is something to experience. There are approximately 8 different films from all over the world with incredible music and cinematography much like a 'Warren Miller' ski film event. If this doesn't get you going it is time to shop for a coffin.

The show will be at the CSU Lory Student Center Theatre with the doors set to open at 6:30 pm and start at 7:00pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $10 for children and are available at St. Peter's Fly Shop or Jax Outdoor Gear by cash or check only.
